Welcome to Hall SUN Community School!

What is SUN?
The SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) program builds student success and strengthens communities by expanding school-based services to include academic enrichment, recreation, and health and social services for students, parents, and neighborhood residents.

What Does SUN Do?
SUN offers programs for students, families, and community members before and after regular school hours that focus on the community's academic, recreational, and enrichment needs. Specifically, SUN:

  •     Transforms the school into a community center by developing extended-day programs and on-site social and health services.
  •     Supports academic achievement through extended-day enrichment.
  •     Provides a safe, supportive place for kids to be before and after school.

Currently, thousands of students, families, and community members in 80 schools throughout Multnomah County participate in recreation activities, get homework help, meet with mentors, strengthen their connection with friends and neighbors, and gain access to health and social services through SUN.

SUN at Hall Elementary School
Hall Elementary SUN Community School, supported and run by El Programa Hispano Catolico, is a place where students find academic support, arts enrichment, skill-building opportunities, and recreational classes after school at no cost.

After-school programming: Registration forms are sent home with students a few weeks prior to the beginning of the SUN term. Activities are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis, with some exceptions (teacher referrals) and space is limited- please don't delay with registration. If you are interested in learning more about the SUN program or want to volunteer, please contact us. 

All students must have a 2023/24 Student Registration Form on file to attend Extended Day activities.  Please find this form here or Hall Main Office.  Find the registration form in Spanish here. Complete, sign and return the form to the SUN Office at any time during the school year. SUN is year round and the sessions are as follows:

  • Fall: Oct 9th - November 30th
  • Winter: TBA

  • Summer: TBA

Baile Folklorico: Are you looking for a fun and exciting afterschool activity for your child? Look no further than our folkloric dance program! Students in kindergarten through second grade are invited to join us as we explore the vibrant and colorful world of traditional Latin American dance. Our program offers a safe and supportive environment where children can learn new dance moves, make new friends, and gain a deeper appreciation of the rich cultural heritage of these beautiful dances. With experienced instructors and live music, your child will have a blast developing their coordination, rhythm, and creativity. Don't miss out on this unique and rewarding opportunity – sign your child up for our folkloric dance program today!

To secure a spot for your child, kindly submit a SUN registration form to either the SUN staff or the Hall Elementary Main Office. You can also sign up your child online by filling out this Google form by clicking here. 

Additionally, we request that adults attend the first meeting on April 17th for orientation and to meet the instructor. 

Community Support: Apart from its regular programs, SUN at Hall can assist families dealing with food insecurity, housing issues, and other related concerns. Dry Food and Clothing Closet: Are you in need of pantry goods, hygiene products, or winter jackets? Hall Elementary SUN School has food supplies, hygiene products, and slightly used clothes, and more goods containing donations received from community partners. If you are interested, please contact Hall SUN Extended Coordinator, Xochitl Carrasco, call or text 971-274-1235 carrasco28@gresham.k12.or.us. You may also fill out page 3 of this form  and return it to SUN/ Hall Main Office.
